Anna Fell Rothstein (Hungarian/ American, 1890-1967): Modern Floral. Oil on canvas, signed lower right, framed. The consignor of this painting has asked that proceeds for this item will go to the Massachusetts College of Art and Design Foundation.
The artist's statement: At sixty-four, my work was done, and, it seemed I live with it. Then I started painting, something I always wanted to do. I love the work. One can forget all the sorrows in the world in the beauty one hopes to achieve in one's work. What a chance to fight all the wrongs one sees! I hope my paintings will do it. Contradiction plays a central role in my work. Without it, there is no tension and in its absence, no beauty. My attraction to the purity and relative emptiness of the square monochrome is confounded by my insistence on filling that void with expressive content.
27 x 35 framed; 21 x 29 inches canvas.
Private collection, New England.
Good condition with minor surface grime in the more thickly painted areas, and small areas of paint have been rubbed off by the frame.
NOTE: If documentation is not listed, the lot is sold without documents.
Please refer to our Terms and Conditions prior to bidding. Color fidelity of photos presented is not guaranteed. Lack of a condition statement does not imply that a lot is perfect. Please examine photos, read descriptions, and contact the Gallery with any questions prior to bidding. All sales are final.
