Luba People, Congo/Zaire: Andromorphic Mask resembling the face of a bird. White kaolin clay defines the eyes and areas around the face which are incised to resemble the pattern of feathers. The dark areas have a shiny patina, with the raised line of the beak rubbed/worn to reveal the natural wood tone. The periphery of the mask is incised with holes for costume attachment. Early 20th century.
