Dan People, Liberia: An elaborately decorated and large Janus (Double-faced) Mask, Carved wood, late 19th/ early 20th century. The mask is adorned with multiple rows of shells, metal bands, metal upholstery tacks, strings of beads, bells, fibers and feathers. It has a fine patina and the incised holes at its lower rim are worn from their former costume attachments. The mask comes with a custom-made steel display stand.
